Chemical pregnancy - why is early abortion happening?
The dream of becoming a mother is sometimes shattered by a harmful physiological manifestation, called a chemical pregnancy or early abortion. Many women face the disappointment of losing their baby as soon as they find out they are pregnant. The phenomenon occurs before the pregnancy reaches the second month of pregnancy and is an unfortunate event, which happens relatively often.
50% of spontaneous abortions are called "chemical pregnancies", namely the loss of the zygote fertilized by a vaginal bleeding that occurs in the days when menstruation had to occur.
How is the chemical load going?
Basically, the zygote formed in the uterus after fertilization of the egg by the sperm fails to turn into fetus. Therefore, it is possible to have an early abortion before you notice that your first menstruation is delayed after conception.
Pregnancy can be detected by a classic test purchased from the pharmacy, as it also identifies the smallest amount of hCG (pregnancy hormone) in the body. In the case of chemical fertilization, the zygote dies before the ultrasound can record the heartbeat of the conception product.
This reproductive failure is not uncommon. Statistics show that at least half of the first pregnancies end in early abortion, which many women don't even notice.
Symptoms of chemical pregnancy
Symptoms of such a pregnancy may be similar to normal ones or may be completely absent: nausea, fatigue and mood swings are the most common signs of hormonal disorders specific to the pregnancy period.
The main indication is the presence of vaginal bleeding shortly after the pregnancy test has indicated a positive response. Also, blood tests in the case of a chemical pregnancy show that the level of the hCG hormone begins to fall, rather than increase.
Causes of chemical pregnancy
Doctors believe that the occurrence of the chemical pregnancy is based on the main reason for all unprovoked abortions: the chromosomal abnormalities of the fetus. The exact causes could not be established, as it is almost impossible to obtain chromosomal samples at this early stage.
Other factors that can lead to a miscarriage are:
- defects of the zygote: defects of the fertilized egg, which prevent it from developing;
- problems of conception of the mother: deficiencies of conception of the mother, such as congenital malformations or other problems of the reproductive organs;
- Infections: infections of the urinary tract, those transmitted on the sexual side, can cause miscarriage;
- low levels of hormones: too little hormone (especially progesterone) cannot support the development of a pregnancy;
The chemical pregnancy happens early enough that it does not affect a woman's body. In most cases, it can be mistaken for regular menstruation, which may delay a few days.
A study popularized in 2007 shows that bleeding from a chemical pregnancy is often easier than normal menstrual flow. Moderate bleeding may be accompanied by cramps, but recovery is not difficult.
The conception after chemical pregnancy
In the event of an early abortion, most doctors advise you to continue trying to get pregnant as soon as possible.
Another category of specialists prefer to recommend a period of pause until the next attempts at conception. Ideally, ask your doctor which is the best choice depending on your particular case.
Psychological suffering after chemical pregnancy
In many cases, chemical pregnancy is a contributing factor to depression. While some women are well over a loss of this kind, there are cases of devastating emotional apathy.
Those around me do not usually understand the reason for the suffering in this situation. Regardless of outside opinions, a loss of pregnancy justifies the regret of losing an important chance for motherhood.
If you notice that the pain caused by early abortion significantly affects you, give yourself a bigger reason next time before you take the pregnancy test. This way, you avoid a new disappointment and persevere in trying to become a mom every day.
